A Step Back In Time = Vote Republican

There we have it ladies and gentlemen, the bottom line. It is very interesting that the Republican party has made it VERY clear that they will go back to the ways things were done. It might not sound like it at first, but listen to what they have said in debate after debate, news show after news show.

First is tax policy. Republicans are completely and totally against any kind of tax revisions that will result in an increase in taxes on the rich. All of them are. Listen to their voices. Even Herman Cain, with his 9-9-9 plan will raise taxes on the poor, but not the wealthy. If Bill Gates pays 9% sales tax on toilet paper, and you pay 9%, who gets hurt the most? (Yes, I am figuring if you are reading this blog you are not a millionaire.) Nine percent of Mr. Gates income will cause him a LOT less pain than the 9 percent you will pay, and in effect you will trade a 15% tax with deductions for an 18% hard tax. I am not ready to say that works in the favor of anyone under a million dollars. Also, do you really think that our Senate and House of Representatives would even vote that in?

Next is social issues. Republican candidates for president have all said they would bring back “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell“. They have all stated they would sign a “Defense of Marriage Act“, making same-sex marriages illegal. Every one of them has said they will deregulate all the businesses that caused the catastrophic meltdown of Wall Street and Main Street at the end of 2007-2008. This means banks could gouge their credit card customers again, sell bad investments labeled as good investments again. This means that our EPA regulations would be decreased with no regard to the health and welfare of the people and livestock in the area. It will be what is good for the companies. It means that many of our protected lands will be “open for business” to oil and gas companies.

Yes, essentially voting Republican in the next election cycle means heading back into the bad old days. I am not certain voting Democratic will get you where you want to go, but I am certain it won’t take you backwards! That in itself is progress of sorts!
